As Atlanta prepares for a weekend of sporting events and the hectic Christmas season, police are stepping up security to keep visitors and residents safe. Taking into account the additional visitors traveling to Atlanta for the Friday night Hawks game, Saturday SEC Championship and the Falcons on Sunday, deputy chief Timothy Peek reminded Peek during a Friday afternoon press conference to stay vigilant and keep items out of their cars to reduce car thefts and other crimes.

“We have mobilized all of our departments within the Atlanta Police Department to support field operations, patrols and visibility across the city … you will find that there will be a lot of police on the way,” Peek said. “We will work closely with all of our jurisdictions to ensure we create a safe atmosphere for our Atlanta citizens.”

With the streets expected to be crowded with cars, Peek reminded city residents that MARTA is available and should be used to get around.

The Atlanta Hawks will play the Philadelphia 76ers at the State Farm Arena on Friday at 7:30 pm. Taking the train to the GWCC / CNN MARTA train station efficiently brings fans to the arena and saves time in traffic.

The SEC FanFare events and Saturday’s SEC championship game between Georgia and Alabama at Mercedes-Benz Stadium can also be reached by train to the GWCC / CNN train station. The game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. The events have already started and will last until 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Georgia World Congress Center. Pep rallies take place on Saturday from 1:15 p.m. Peek said the game will be treated like any other sporting event handled by the Atlanta Police Department.

“We’ve been hosting these events over and over again, so we have a solid plan that we’re constantly working on with all of our partners … to make sure we really and truly integrate our security protocols internally and externally so we all know exactly what is going on.” goes. “and we can react appropriately,” he said. At the end of the sports weekend, the Atlanta Falcons will play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Remember to wear your mask while traveling with MARTA, as the mask requirement in stations, buses, trains and trams has been extended until January. Free masks are available at train stations and on buses.

To get into the holiday season and prepare for the swarm of shoppers, Peek said additional patrols will be set up in shopping areas across town. Atlanta Police are working closely with Lenox Square to ensure proper security measures are in place, and Peek said additional patrols will be on duty at the mall.

Even so, he reminded people not to leave items in vehicles when shopping to make it easier for thieves to break in and take these items away.

“When shopping, be mindful of your surroundings, take things out of your store and put them in your vehicle so you don’t just go back to the mall,” Peek said, advising shoppers to put all of their items in either the mall Taking stores with you or dropping them off at home to prevent car break-ins. Not everyone will visit the stores and some shoppers choose to shop online. Peek advised buyers to be home when packages arrive or to send them to a place where they won’t be left unattended and with the possibility of being stolen.

Peek stressed that people on the move should be constantly aware of their surroundings, but said the police are not suggesting that people take matters into their own hands if they see something suspicious. Calling 911 or shutting down a police officer are safer in certain circumstances, he said.

“We want to welcome all of our citizens, we want to welcome all of our visitors who come, and we just want everyone to have a safe, happy weekend and a safe holiday season,” said Peek.

Note from Zennie62Media and OaklandNewsNow.com: This video blog post demonstrates the full and live operation of the latest updated version of an experimental Zennie62Media, Inc. network for video blogging systems for mobile media that launched in June 2018, The new and Zennie62Media, Inc.’s innovative approach to news media production. What we call “The Third Wave of Media”. The uploaded video is from a YouTube channel. When the video is “liked” by Zennie62 YouTube, it is automatically uploaded to the Oakland News Now site and Zennie62-created and custom social media pages and automatically formatted there. The overall goal here is, in addition to our smartphone-enabled, real-time reporting of news, interviews, observations and events anywhere in the world and within seconds rather than hours – is the use of the existing YouTube social graphic on any topic in the world. News is now being reported with the smartphone and also by promoting current content on YouTube: There is no need for heavy and expensive cameras or even a laptop, or to have a camera team to film what is already on YouTube. The secondary goal is faster and very inexpensive production and distribution of media content. We found that there is a discrepancy between post length and time to product and revenue generated. This means that the problem is much smaller, but by no means solved. Zennie62Media is constantly working to improve the system’s network encoding and is looking for interested content and media technology partners.
