Oakland News Now – Birds of Lake Merritt book launch, with author Alex Harris – video from YouTube channel in the upper left corner of the video.

Author-illustrator Alex Harris presents his new book: Birds of Lake Merritt, a richly illustrated bird guide to the country’s first official nature reserve.
This charming, full-color field guide introduces us to fifteen waterfowl that are easy to find in the Lake Merritt Urban Game Reserve in Oakland. In his introduction, author and illustrator Alex Harris tells the story of the lake and provides context for a place that attracts people and shorebirds alike.

Each species profile of the lake’s feathered inhabitants is accompanied by a beautiful, detailed watercolor that captures the bird’s unmistakable coloring and curved physicality. The black-crowned night heron, Oakland’s official city bird, stares with its startling orange eyes while the American coot moves its fancy flared feet. Along with simple clues to identify each bird, Harris holds the voices of members of the Oakland community and shares moments of joy from the most dedicated bird watchers.

A celebration of bird life and the human joy of experiencing it, Birds of Lake Merritt is a must-have nature guide in the heart of the city.
Alex Harris, born and raised in Berkeley, California, is an artist interested in the use of art and technology to study how humans interact with the natural world. He holds a BA in Environmental Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and previously served as the web editor and electronic communications manager at the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive.

He lives and works in Oakland, California.

Note from Zennie62Media and This video blog post demonstrates the full and live operation of the latest updated version of an experimental Zennie62Media, Inc. network for video blogging systems for mobile media launched in June 2018 by Zennie62Media, Inc .s new and innovative approach to news media production. What we call “The Third Wave of Media”. The uploaded video is from a YouTube channel. When the video is “liked” by Zennie62 YouTube, it is automatically uploaded to the Oakland News Now site and Zennie62-created and custom social media pages and automatically formatted there. The overall goal here is, in addition to our smartphone-enabled real-time reporting of news, interviews, observations and events anywhere in the world and within seconds, not hours – the use of the existing YouTube social graphic on any topic in the world. Now messages are reported with the smartphone and also by advertising current content on YouTube: There is no need for heavy and expensive cameras or even a laptop or a camera team to film what is already on YouTube. The secondary goal is faster and very inexpensive production and distribution of media content. We found that there is a discrepancy between post length and time to product and revenue generated. This means that the problem is much smaller, but by no means solved. Zennie62Media is constantly working to improve the system’s network coding and is looking for interested content and media technology partners.
