Chinatown Crime: Oakland Mayor Schaaf receives help from Governor Gavin Newsom to stop violence in Chinatown

At a press briefing on Wednesday, Governor Gavin Newsom said he had complied with Mayor Libby Schaaf’s request to provide additional California Highway Patrol CHP traffic enforcement resources in Oakland’s main trade corridors and along International Blvd.

The new collaboration is in response to Oakland community leaders who have requested more state resources for areas experiencing a traumatic increase in violent crime and dangerous traffic violations.

The mayor addressed the governor’s announcement today and a video of her response can be found here.

“We are responding to calls from our residents for more law enforcement security,” said Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf. “I will keep looking for every resource. I will continue to seek appropriate personnel in the Oakland Police Department, particularly for investigations. But bringing traffic enforcement – which is the job of the California Highway Patrol – to Oakland is an appropriate request, and I am so grateful that the governor complied. “

Note from Zennie62Media’s Zennie62Media YouTube blog and the Oakland News Now Today SF Bay Area blog: This video blog post demonstrates the full and live operation of the latest updated version of an experimental Zennie62Media, Inc. network for video blogging -Mobile Media Systems, which launched in June 2018, is an integral part of Zennie62Media, Inc.’s new and innovative approach to news media production. What we call “The Third Wave of Media”. The uploaded video is from a vlogger with the Zennie62 on YouTube partner channel, is then uploaded to the Oakland News Now site and Zennie62’s own social media pages and is automatically formatted. The overriding goal is smartphone-based reporting in real time on site about news, interviews, observations and events all over the world and within seconds, not hours. Now it is reported with a smartphone: No heavy and expensive cameras or even a laptop are necessary. The secondary goal is faster and very inexpensive production and distribution of media content. We found that there is a discrepancy between post length and time to product and revenue generated. This means that the problem is much smaller, but by no means solved. Zennie62Media is constantly working to improve the system’s network coding and is looking for interested content and media technology partners.
