OAKLAND (CBS SF / BCN) – One person was dead, another was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries and a suspect was detained on suspicion of driving under the influence of a multiple crash on the 880 southbound in Oakland early Saturday.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 4:30 a.m. in the south lanes of 880 near the driveway of 66th Avenue

Upon arrival, CHP officials discovered that a Chevrolet and a Honda were involved in a collision.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the Chevrolet collided with the guardrail as it crossed onto the freeway and blocked the third lane when hit by the Honda. The collision propelled the Chevrolet forward and hit and killed a passenger who had got out of the vehicle.

The driver of the Chevrolet was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. The CHP said the Honda driver had been rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The victim’s name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
