Former NBA star Gary Payton of Oakland donates emergency kits of meals and hygiene merchandise to native households

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) – Oakland-born former NBA star Gary Payton is giving back to the community.

Payton has partnered with World Vision to provide emergency kits to families.

The giveaway was at the Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church on Market Street, where his brother is a pastor.

Payton says his hometown needs his help more than ever.

“We’re trying to help those in need,” Payton said. “Those who really need and really are are struggling with this virus and this pandemic because Oakland, California needs it.”

Each bag had enough food to feed a family of five for a week.

This also included hygiene and protective articles as well as teaching aids for children.
