Huge fireplace at night time engulfs the home in East Oakland – CBS San Francisco

OAKLAND (CBS SF) – A 2-alarm fire late Saturday night engulfed a house on the 1800 block of 57th Avenue in East Oakland, destroying the house, a shed and damaging several vehicles before finally being extinguished.

Oakland firefighters managed to stop the fire from spreading before it could spread to neighboring homes.

Crews responded to calls reporting the fire at 9:49 p.m. and were faced with towering flames blazing from the roof of the building as they arrived at the scene.

About 40 firefighters eventually responded to fighting the flames.

The two residents of the residence were able to evacuate safely. No injuries were reported.

As a precautionary measure, PG&E has turned off power to the neighborhood. One cause of the fire was further investigated.
