Oakland City Council President Nikki Fortunado Bas joins Chinatown volunteers walking Monday morning to support alternative security strategies for the community

Tomorrow, Monday, July 12, Council President Nikki Fortunato Bas will join Oakland Chinatown Coalition volunteers to participate in the Chinatown Volunteer Strolling Program, a key example of an alternative community security strategy that strengthens community relationships, Eyes and raised ears on the street, improves the built environment and prevents damage and violence from occurring.

Along with volunteer parishioners of all backgrounds and ages from across Oakland, Bas will walk the streets of Chinatown, escorting seniors to and from destinations as needed, removing graffiti, cleaning the streets, building relationships with Chinatown vendors, providing resources to people without shelter Report problems to 311 such as illegal dumplings, overcrowded trash cans, and street repair needs.
