Oakland Colleges Information – OUSD Makes Adjustments to COVID Logs for All Staff | Oakland Information now
Dear OUSD community,
It was a wonderful and very moving start to the school year and we are very happy to see our students, families and employees on our campus again. The safety and well-being of everyone in our community is a top priority for all of us. We are writing today to announce an important additional step we are taking to protect our students, staff, and the community.
Given the current high transmission rates in Alameda County, we are implementing the requirement that all OUSD employees, contractors and volunteers be vaccinated or tested weekly. It is encouraging that of the more than 3,700 employees who have already reported their vaccination status to us, 92% said they had already been vaccinated. Employees who have not yet been vaccinated or who still need to report their vaccination status have until Friday, August 27thto upload proof of vaccination. (Employees who have previously self-certified that they have been vaccinated must upload the proof by the same date.)
Starting Tuesday September 7th (the day after Labor Day), all OUSD employees (including remote workers), contractors and volunteers must be fully vaccinated or, alternatively, receive a COVID test at least once a week. Anyone who is fully vaccinated does not need to test weekly once their vaccination status has been checked. OUSD offers multiple testing options including at-home test kits as well as 10 test sites offering both rapid antigen and PCR testing. There are also plenty of community-based test locations.
In addition to requiring all OUSD employees, contractors and volunteers to get vaccinated or tested on a weekly basis, starting Monday August 16, OUSD will be making a number of other changes to the district’s health and safety practices and protocols: on ours Campus (currently mask compulsory only indoors and recommended outdoors); Introduction of a revised dashboard for COVID cases; and increasing uptime for the test sites.
Vaccinations are the most effective way to protect ourselves, our loved ones, and our community from COVID-19. We are proud to join a growing group of school districts, private employers and public institutions across the country that are requiring vaccination of their employees in the name of public health and safety. In addition to the vaccines, OUSD has implemented a layered approach to COVID security in our schools, through improved ventilation at all locations, a robust contact tracking and case monitoring system that ensures that symptomatic students and staff stay at home, and of course universal masking for all employees and students, regardless of vaccination status.
We are grateful for how our community has come together to care for and support one another since this pandemic began. And we will continue to work together to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of our students, families, employees, and partners.
In the community,
Chief Talent Officer
Dr. Kyla Johnson-Trammell
