Oakland Firefighters Management 2 Alert Fires Close to Lake Merritt – CBS San Francisco

OAKLAND (CBS SF) – A two-alarm fire broke out Tuesday morning in a residential home under construction in Oakland near Lake Merritt, which quickly spread to the second floor, sending flames and a towering cloud of smoke into the air before the firefighters got it under control.

The Oakland Fire Department said the crews responded to reports of a fire in the three-story building near 2nd Ave and International about a block from Lake Merritt at around 7:46 a.m.

Arriving firefighters discovered flames and smoke pouring from the second floor. They quickly called a second alarm.

Firefighters said the crews fought to keep the flames from spreading to nearby buildings.

“Fire on all three floors of the main building,” tweeted the department.

Oakland Fire Department spokesman Michael Hunt said nearby buildings have been evacuated and no injuries have been reported.

The crews brought it under control at 8:24 a.m. and prevented the fire from spreading to other buildings.

According to Hunt, two people were evicted from the living area on a lower floor. The two were working on the building, he said.
