Oakland Scholar Receives Messalonskee Excessive’s MPA Award

OAKLAND – Gabriella Smart, daughter of Tim and Kerry Smart from Oakland and a graduate of Messalonskee High School, has been selected to receive the 2021 Principal’s Award. The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is presented in recognition of academic achievement and citizenship of a high school student.

During her four years at Messalonskee High School, Smart earned High Honors, Student of the Month, and National Honor Society member, according to a classroom press release. Her leadership roles included serving on the student council as a class representative and class representative in her sophomore and younger years. That year she was one of two students on the school’s management team.

She was a member of the golf, volleyball, lacrosse and basketball teams and a student assistant for the Unified Basketball team. As a member of the golf team, she received the Eagle Award and was an Honorable Mention KVAC student in lacrosse.

After graduating from MHS, Smart plans to attend Wheaton College to study biology with an emphasis on medical research.
