Police arrest Oakland 3, 2 weapons seized after armed carjacking close to Lake Merritt – CBS San Francisco

OAKLAND (CBS SF) – Oakland police on Thursday confirmed the arrest of three suspects – including a teenager – and the seizure of two guns after an armed carjacking near Lake Merritt Monday night.

At around 10:12 p.m. Monday night, officers responded to a report of armed carjacking on the south end of Lake Merritt on the 1200 block of Lakeshore Avenue.

The officers found the stolen vehicle in a parking lot on the 3300 block on 72nd Avenue at around 10:49 p.m. As the officers approached, three inmates got out of the stolen vehicle and fled to the neighborhood on foot.

The officers quickly set up a perimeter around the area. For the safety of people in the area and the potential level of violence, the department approved the use of the ambulance and the SUV. Authorities believed the operation was necessary as officials believed the people who escaped from the stolen vehicle may be armed.

The California Highway Patrol provided air support, and officers located and arrested three suspects – two adults and one youth, all of whom were Oakland residents. Officers also recovered two firearms.

The stolen vehicle was processed as evidence and returned to the owner.
