The Metropolis of Oakland is placing the historic Montclair Hearth Station up on the market

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) – Who would guess that one of the hottest properties in the Bay Area real estate market is a real and historic fire station?

The City of Oakland has two lots for sale in Montclair, including the historic Montclair Fire Station. The architecture is reminiscent of a small gingerbread house and has been empty for some time, as a short tour of the interior would show.

Still, it’s a unique prospect for potential buyers like April Howell Young and her husband Douglas, who grew up in the area and raised a firefighter.

“This is one of the first fire stations I came to as a kid, around five years old. And I remember looking at the fire station and the big fire trucks and the guys who were really nice and very professionally dressed. And one of the old firefighters and old African American guys put his hat and helmet on me and put me on the truck when I was five, and I thought it was the coolest thing, “recalls Young.

But like other potential buyers, the Youngs would consider an opening bid of $ 500,000 with no idea what the final cost of restoring the historic building.
